HOW TO GET CONTACT DETAILS OF UNKOWN PHONE NUMBERS
Posted on 9:36 AM by Srujan
rritating Unknow Phone Numbers
“Tring Tring, Tring Tring” (OK, whatever ringtone you have) it’s 2am and your phone suddenly starts ringing. You pick up the call but no one talks. After 5 minutes, the phone rings again, you pick the call, but no one talks. This would happen a few more times and you will start going nuts about it.
You want to know the person disturbing your sleep. You will start fuming with anger and feel like hitting the person who is doing this. But sadly, you don’t know who he/she is or where the person is located?
All you will do is just bear their torture and curse them whenever they ring you. May be, if the situation goes out of hand, few of you will even lodge a formal Police complaint against the person.
But, guess what! That will not be the case anymore. You might have read about several such articles before that promised you to reveal contact details of unknown phone numbersand not worked. But this one actually works and it’s FREE!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Truecaller, a trusted and reliable global phone directory that can tell you the contact details of unknown phone numbers in a few clicks.
Truecaller is not just an online service, but you also have apps for iPhone, Android, Windows Phones, Blackberry and Symbian.
It is a global service and anyone from different parts of the world like India, US, UK, Australia, Canada or any country for that matter can make use of this service to find out the contact details of unknown phone numbers.
I know a lot of stuff must have started going through your mind like -
- How will this even work?
- Does it have my personal number?
- Is this some kind of magic?
How to get the Contact Details of Unknown Phone Numbers?
Now without wasting some more time of yours, let me quickly tell you how to use Truecaller online and on your phone.
Online
1. Visit the Trucaller web page here.
2. Enter the phone number of which you want to find the contact details.
3. It will ask you to sign in using Facebook, Twitter, Google or Yahoo. Sign in using any of this service. But I recommend using Facebook. If you watched the video above, you will know why Facebook.
4. Now, you will need to enter the Phone number again and click on the blue search icon.
5. Voila! You can’t believe your eyes right! You will have the complete details of the person with name, phone number, service provider, state and country
But sometimes, it is possible that Turecaller will not show you anything if it doesn’t have the number in its database. Again, this is rare!
Smartphones
1. The first thing you need to do is to install the app on your Smartphone.
2. Here are the download links:
- Download Truecaller for Android
- Download Truecaller for iOS
- Download Truecaller for Windows Phone
- Download Truecaller for BlackBerry
- Download Truecaller for Symbian
3. Once you have installed the app, you will have to confirm your region.
4. Next, you can get the contact details of unknown phone number from the main screen.
The app runs in the background and kicks in every time you get a call.
It displays the name and related information whenever you get a call that may be from a know number or an unknown one.
After you’re done with the call, you can even save the number to your contacts on the phone.
Close your eyes, you don’t want to be reading this – Truecaller tries to locate the caller’s location making use of the Google Maps. Oops!! You know the consequences!
The can also sync all the numbers in your contacts with missing information like pictures, address and other details.
The “Call Filter” tab lets you blacklist unwanted numbers, this way you will be warned by Truecaller every time you get a call from the blacklisted number.
Many Uses of Truecaller
1. No more stalkers.
2. When you get a missed call from some unknown number, you can first check the name of the caller using the app and then call them back only if necessary.
3. Just by using the name, you can find the phone number and other details of a person, but this is a paid service and you will need to buy Truecaller credits. You can find pricing details here.
4. You can know if a person is lying to you about their location.
5. Keep the Telemarketers and other bothering people away.
And a lot more uses which I don’t want to list.

Replacing an engine’s spark plugs with lasers
Posted on 5:23 AM by Srujan
The Spark Plugs used in an internal combustion engine have been nearly unchanged since the beginning. The design is very simple – a high-voltage spark jumps a tiny gap and this spark ignites gasoline. Spark plugs are a relatively cheap, reliable way to get the job done.
Local DNS Cache for Faster Browsing

A DNS server resolves domain names into IP addresses. So when you request “google.com” for example, the DNS server finds out the address for the domain, and sends your request the right way.
Installing using an RPM file

If you have an rpm file for a package you wish to install, and if you cannot find a .deb debian package in any of the Ubuntu repositories or elsewhere, you can use the alien package converter application to install the .rpm file.
libdvdcss2 and w32codecs for Ubuntu
Posted on 5:03 AM by Srujan
You need codecs (decoders) and software to read the contents of DVDs to be able to see multimedia files of different formats, as well as DVDs. These software are provided free for use in Ubuntu – however due to restrictions on distributing these modules in countries like the USA, they are not always easy to find. This post will tell you how to find them to install them on your Ubuntu computer. The libdvdcss2 package helps you play dvds. The w32codecs package is used to play some media file formats in mplayer, xine etc.
Installation instructions for libdvdcss2 and w32codecs in Ubuntu
To add libdvdcss2 and win32codecs to your Ubuntu installation, you have to add the Medibuntu package repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
To do this, you have to:
1. Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list using either of the following commands in a terminal:
or
1. Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list using either of the following commands in a terminal:
$gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.listto open it in the GUI text editoror
$sudo vim /etc/apt/sources.listto open it in the Vim command line text editor
2. Add the following lines to add the Medibuntu repository to the file:
If you are running Feisty or some other release, other than edgy, replace the word “edgy” in both lines above with the name of the release you are using.
## Medibuntu - Ubuntu 6.10 "edgy eft"
## Please report any bug onhttps://launchpad.net/products/medibuntu/+bugs
deb http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repo/ edgy free non-free
deb-src http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repo/ edgy free non-freeIf you are running Feisty or some other release, other than edgy, replace the word “edgy” in both lines above with the name of the release you are using.
3. Import the gpg key for the Medibuntu repository to ensure that the packages are installed without warnings/errors regarding trust:
To do this, run the following command from the terminal:
To do this, run the following command from the terminal:
wget -q http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repo/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
4. Now update the local list of packages to get the list of packages from the newly added Medibuntu repository:
In a terminal execute the following command:
In a terminal execute the following command:
sudo apt-get update
5. Now you can install libdvdcss2 and w32codecs using the following command:
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 w32codecs
Note: There are installation instructions on the Medibuntu page for Dapper and newer that are different - only because the instructions help you create a new sources.list file without mucking around in the old sources.list file. Feel free to follow them instead. I posted the old-style instructions that modifies the existing sources.list file to ensure that the instructions work for everyone - those using Warty(the first release ever) through those using the latest release of Ubuntu.
There are a lot of wonderful packages provided by Medibuntu. Feel free to install any other you like, or might want.
Just in case...
In case the medibuntu repositories go down, you can add and use Seveas' repositories. You will then have to add similar line to the /etc/apt/sources.list file, with the Seveas repository url etc. Seveas' repository has a few mirrors as listed below:
- http://free.linux.hp.com/~brett/seveas/freenx (Sponsored by Brett Johnson)
- http://seveas.imbrandon.com (Sponsored by Brandon Holtsclaw)
- http://mirror.ubuntulinux.nl/ (Sponsored by Niels Roosen)
- http://seveas.theplayboymansion.net/seveas (Sponsored by Henri Cook (orion-hosting.co.uk)
- http://mirror2.ubuntulinux.nl/ (Sponsored by Peter Lieverdink)
As a quick guide to using Seveas' repository instead of the Medibuntu repository, you should change the lines added to the sources.list file to read like:
deb http://mirror.ubuntulinux.nl edgy-seveas all
deb-src http://mirror.ubuntulinux.nl edgy-seveas all
and the gpg-key add command will now be:
wget http://mirror.ubuntulinux.nl/1135D466.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
The other commands/steps can be modified as neccessary - it is not too difficult to figure it out, and the exercise is left to the reader for now
SSH Menu – Save and Open SSH Connections from the Panel August
Posted on 4:59 AM by Srujan
I was looking for a replacement for SecureCRT in Ubuntu. Something that would let me save all my SSH connections and make it possible to open a connection with the least effort.
As is often the case, I found something better than SecureCRT – a panel applet for GNOME that gives me a drop-down list of SSH connections. SSHMenu is cool, way too cool.

How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)
Posted on 7:42 PM by Srujan
One of the most common steps when troubleshooting a PC is to boot into safe mode. For a long time this has been achieved by pressing the F8 key, this all changes with Windows 8 and its Automatic Repair mode. But what if we want Safe Mode?
You can still have Safe Mode, however, it is buried deep into the recovery options of Windows 8. While just mashing the F8 key as we all know will boot you into automatic recovery mode, you can still manually access the recovery options by pressing the Shift+F8 key combination.
Booting Into Safe Mode on Windows 8
The trick is to hold the Shift button and mash the F8 key, this will sometimes boot you into the new advanced “recovery mode”, where you can choose to see advanced repair options.
You will need to click on the Troubleshoot option.
Now select Advanced Options.
Now choose the Windows Startup Settings option, by the looks of things we were never meant to find Safe Mode.
Finally hit the Restart button.
Like magic, when your PC reboots you will be able to boot into Safe Mode from the familiar looking Advanced Boot Options screen.
Getting To Safe Mode From Within Windows 8
You have a second option, however, this requires you to be booted into Windows already. Press the Win+R key combination and type msconfig in the run box and hit enter.
Switch over to the boot tab, and click on the Safe Boot check box.
You can also choose the type of Safe Mode you want to boot into:
- Minimal is normal safe mode.
- Alternate Shell is safe mode with command prompt
- Network is safe mode with networking.
The Active Directory option pertains to restoring a server that is a Domain Controller for your network. Once you have chosen your option click the ok button and restart your machine.
You PC will be booted into Safe Mode automatically.
If you restart you PC you will just keep getting booted into Safe Mode, to stop this open msconfig again and uncheck the Safe Boot option, then hit the ok button.
Finally Restart your Machine.
Finally Restart your Machine.

Twitter faces calls in Britain to get tough on online abuse
Posted on 10:07 PM by Srujan
Twitter, the social media site, is under pressure in Britain to make it easier for Internet users to report abuse after more than 30,000 people petitioned it over the case of a feminist campaigner who says she was repeatedly threatened with rape.
Caroline Criado-Perez helped lobby the Bank of England to make a woman, 19th century novelist Jane Austen, the new face on the country's 10 pound note, to defuse criticism that women were under-represented on the currency.
She was then "targeted repeatedly with rape threats" by ill-wishers objecting to her activity, according to an online petition, which called on Twitter to urgently add a 'report abuse' button to its service.
Some users proposed a one-day boycott of Twitter to protest against what they said was its failure to address the issue.
Twitter's General Manager for the UK Tony Wang promised to suspend all accounts found to be in breach of its rules.
"We take online abuse seriously," he wrote, saying the company was testing ways to simplify reporting of abuse.
Apple's Mansfield no longer in exec team, moves to special projects
Posted on 10:05 PM by Srujan
Apple Inc said on Sunday it will shift Bob Mansfield, senior vice president of technologies, out of its executive team to work on special projects.
Mansfield, who has led the development of a number of Apple devices including the popular MacBook Air laptop, had at one stage announced his plan to retire last year as head of hardware engineering but stayed on to lead Apple's semiconductor and wireless teams.
Mansfield is the latest addition to Chief Executive Tim Cook's "special projects" team. In July, Cook hired a former chief executive of French luxury group Yves Saint Laurent, Paul Deneve, to work on special projects.
Last October, Cook overhauled his management team, pushing out the powerful head of the company's mobile software products group.
Amazon unveils new hiring spree ahead of Obama visit
Posted on 10:03 PM by Srujan
Amazon.com Inc unveiled a new hiring spree on Monday ahead of a visit by President Barack Obama to one of the Internet retailer's giant distribution warehouses this week.
Amazon said it is looking to fill more than 5,000 new full-time jobs at 17 of its fulfillment centers across the United States. That's roughly a 25 percent increase in full-time fulfillment center staff, which currently number more than 20,000 in the country.
Amazon has been building lots of new fulfillment centers closer to customers in recent years as the company tries to speed up delivery of online orders and reduce shipping costs.
Amazon needs a lot of workers to pick, pack and ship orders alongside high tech robots that whiz around its warehouses. The company's demand for employees is so strong that it has created special programs to woo candidates.
Last year, Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos used the front page of the company's website to announce a Career Choice program that pays thousands of dollars for warehouse employees to take technical and vocational courses in high-demand areas including engineering, information technology, transportation and accounting.
Amazon made its latest hiring push as President Obama is due to visit a company fulfillment center in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Tuesday to speak about jobs in the United States.
The President will discuss proposals to jumpstart private sector job growth and make America more competitive, according to a White House spokeswoman.
Software experts attack cars, to release code as hackers meet
Posted on 9:40 PM by Srujan
(Reuters) - Car hacking is not a new field, but its secrets have long been closely guarded. That is about to change, thanks to two well-known computer software hackers who got bored finding bugs in software from Microsoft and Apple.
Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek say they will publish detailed blueprints of techniques for attacking critical systems in the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape in a 100-page white paper, following several months of research they conducted with a grant from the U.S. government.
The two "white hats" - hackers who try to uncover software vulnerabilities before criminals can exploit them - will also release the software they built for hacking the cars at the Def Con hacking convention in Las Vegas this week.
They said they devised ways to force a Toyota Prius to brake suddenly at 80 miles an hour, jerk its steering wheel, or accelerate the engine. They also say they can disable the brakes of a Ford Escape traveling at very slow speeds, so that the car keeps moving no matter how hard the driver presses the pedal.
"Imagine what would happen if you were near a crowd," said Valasek, director of security intelligence at consulting firm IOActive, known for finding bugs in Microsoft Corp's Windows software.
But it is not as scary as it may sound at first blush.
They were sitting inside the cars using laptops connected directly to the vehicles' computer networks when they did their work. So they will not be providing information on how to hack remotely into a car network, which is what would typically be needed to launch a real-world attack.
The two say they hope the data they publish will encourage other white-hat hackers to uncover more security flaws in autos so they can be fixed.
"I trust the eyes of 100 security researchers more than the eyes that are in Ford and Toyota," said Miller, a Twitter security engineer known for his research on hacking Apple Inc's App Store.
Toyota Motor Corp spokesman John Hanson said the company was reviewing the work. He said the carmaker had invested heavily in electronic security, but that bugs remained - as they do in cars of other manufacturers.
"It's entirely possible to do," Hanson said, referring to the newly exposed hacks. "Absolutely we take it seriously."
Ford Motor Co spokesman Craig Daitch said the company takes seriously the electronic security of its vehicles. He said the fact that Miller's and Valasek's hacking methods required them to be inside the vehicle they were trying to manipulate mitigated the risk.
"This particular attack was not performed remotely over the air, but as a highly aggressive direct physical manipulation of one vehicle over an elongated period of time, which would not be a risk to customers and any mass level," Daitch said.
'TIME TO SHORE UP DEFENSES'
Miller and Valasek said they did not research remote attacks because that had already been done.
A group of academics described ways to infect cars using Bluetooth systems and wireless networks in 2011. But unlike Miller and Valasek, the academics have kept the details of their work a closely guarded secret, refusing even to identify the make of the car they hacked. (reut.rs/NWOPjq)
Their work got the attention of the U.S. government. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has begun an auto cybersecurity research program.
"While increased use of electronic controls and connectivity is enhancing transportation safety and efficiency, it brings a new challenge of safeguarding against potential vulnerabilities," the agency said in a statement. It said it knew of no consumer incident where a vehicle was hacked.
Still, some experts believe malicious hackers may already have the ability to launch attacks.
"It's time to shore up the defenses," said Tiffany Strauchs Rad, a researcher with Kaspersky Lab, who previously worked for an auto security research center.
A group of European computer scientists had been scheduled to present research on hacking the locks of luxury vehicles, including Porsches, Audis, Bentleys and Lamborghinis, at a conference in Washington in mid-August.
But Volkswagen AG obtained a restraining order from a British high court prohibiting discussion of the research by Flavio D. Garcia of the University of Birmingham, and Roel Verdult and Baris Ege of Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
A spokeswoman for the three scientists said they would pull out of the prestigious Usenix conference because of the restraining order. Both universities said they would hold off on publishing the paper, pending the resolution of litigation. (See FACTBOX by clicking)
Volkswagen declined to comment.
